First: Look for products you find on the list below. They contain hazardous ingredients.
Start in the kitchen:
Metal or funiture polish
Oven cleaner
Spot Remover
Try the basement:
Camp fuel
Hobby chemicals
Mercury switches
Oil and alkyd paint/stain
Paint thinner & remover
Solvent wood finishes |
Check the bathroom:
Blood pressure gauges
Disinfectant
Drain opener
Mercury thermometers
Garage or shed:
Acid
Auto Paint
Brake and power steering fluid
Bug and tar remover
Car polish and cleaner with solivent
Fertilizer with pesticides
Gasoline
Insecticides
Marine paints and sealers
Mercury in bottles
Oil pesticides
Pool cleaners & chemicals
Radiator flush
Rodent Poison
Weed killer
Wood Preservatives

Second: Set aside products you no longer need. Give them to friends or neighbors who will use them up.
Third: Place the remaining products in a sturdy box or plastic bin, and take them to a hazardous products collection facility.
